The Aqua Dollies are a group of women who meet at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Health & Fitness Center to swim and socialize. The group includes women of all ages and abilities, and it’s a great way to get exercise, meet new people, and have fun. Founded around the year 2000 by Edith W., the Aqua Dollies began when a few friends in the therapy pool class decided to connect after class on Fridays.
“Edith thought it would be nice to lunch out once a month. Pat Brandt came up with the name and Edith ran with it. She would do a shout-out in the Friday class, inviting everyone out to lunch. That’s how I gratefully wandered into the group around 2006…so many new friends. We’re still going strong,” -Sandra Robinson
Carrying on Edith’s legacy – fun and friendship.
For Patty Hachtel the Aqua Dollies are a group where she has found real friends who share her goals.
“Sandy approached me about 6 months after I started in the therapy pool. I had prayed that I would somehow end up in this group. I was elated to join. The ladies were all so welcoming and so nice. I belonged to a group of women who had the same goals as mine. I wanted a healthier me. After 6 years of not fitting in, at last I had a place I could call home 6 years of searching and trying to make real friends. The Aqua Dollies met all my needs. I love my gym and all of the staff from the maintenance department, housekeeping, and therapist and the trainers,” -Patty Hachtel.
Patty is also thankful for the staff at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Health & Fitness Center.
“This is a perfect place to get healthy. With this crew you can’t help to be the best version of yourself. The front desk staff is the best. They know almost everyone’s name and their story. It is heartwarming to know that I am not just another membership number. My family feels very confident that I will reach my health goals at Northwestern. Bonnie, Regan and Joann are in my family’s daily prayers. God Bless you all,” – Patty Hachtel
Exercise, meet new people and have fun.
One of the best things about the Aqua Dollies is the sense of community. The Aqua Dollies are supportive and encouraging, and they help each other to reach their fitness goals. Whether you’re new to swimming or you’re a seasoned athlete, you’re sure to find a place to belong.
“I’m new to the Aqua Dollies, and it seems like a fun group. Swimming is my thing that I like the best. The ladies are very nice and I’m happy they will have me join them,” – Karen Haley.
